StatSheet's SoCon Player of the Week for January 30th goes to Samford's Jeffrey Merritt. Karl Cochran from Wofford has earned StatSheet's SoCon Freshman of the Week. And finally, Derrell Armstrong from North Carolina-Greensboro has won StatSheet's SoCon 6th Man of the Week. Merritt put up 50% shooting, 6 rebounds per game, and 14 points per game. The Samford senior put these numbers up in wins against Georgia Southern and Davidson.

Merritt led all rebounding for the Bulldogs with 7 while adding 6 assists in a close 57-55 win against Georgia Southern. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring with 20 points plus an additional 5 rebounds in a narrow 77-74 victory against Davidson.

This is the first time this season that Jeffrey Merritt has been selected StatSheet SoCon Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is senior Brandon Sebirumbi from Furman. Honorable mention goes to Furman sophomore Charlie Reddick. Mike Groselle finished 16th and was the highest ranking player from Citadel.

StatSheet SoCon Freshman of the Week: Wofford's Karl Cochran

Karl Cochran averaged 32 minutes starting both games for Wofford. His averages in both scoring (16.5 pts per game) and three pointers (2.5 per game) led all SoCon freshmen. In a 62-55 win over Citadel, Cochran led the Terriers in scoring with 18 points and added 5 rebounds. Following that in a 68-59 win against College of Charleston, he added 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Amazingly, Karl Cochran has won the StatSheet SoCon Freshman of the Week 3 times. Lee Skinner from Wofford gets runner-up. Jordan Loyd from Furman receives honorable mention. The highest ranking freshman from Citadel was C.J. Bray who finished 10th.

StatSheet SoCon 6th Man of the Week: North Carolina-Greensboro's Derrell Armstrong

Derrell Armstrong, a junior and a 6-1 guard, averaged 33 minutes over two games for the Spartans. In a close 77-73 win against Appalachian State, Armstrong led the scoring for the Spartans with 27 points and also added 2 assists. After that, in a last-minute 89-86 win against Western Carolina, he racked up 23 points and 4 assists.

This is Derrell Armstrong's second StatSheet SoCon 6th Man of the Week award this season. Bryson Barnes, a senior forward from Furman, is the runner up. Chris Czerapowicz, a sophomore guard from Davidson, receives honorable mention. Bo Holston finished 5th and was the highest ranking 6th man from Citadel. Citadel players have not yet been named StatSheet SoCon Player of the Week this season.
